Västanfors Industries ABThe Company Vastanfors Industries AB was founded in 1948 and the founder was Gunnar Forsler. In 1953 Vastanfors Industries became a joint-stock company. When this company was founded they did their design by hand and the buildings were only made from sheet metal. Now they use Auto CAD and they use any kind of material such as glass, concrete, sheet metal, and steel. Their activities are carried out on their own premises and that’s about 6,000 m2 in Fagersta, but you also find sales and planning in Halmstad. They build the constructions in the whole country, but even abroad to a smaller extent. They are the biggest in their field and have produced more than 4,500 buildings for various purposes. They produce buildings made out of steel.Last year their turnover was about 160 million SEK and they think that their turnover this year will be unchanged. That is quite different than some years ago. At that time the turnover was about 80-90 million SEK. The company consists of four departments: sales, design, production, and assembly. Steel buildingsOur group decided to focus on steel buildings and the reason for that is because that is the only product they make. They make it from the very beginning, they start to design the product. Then they produce it. In their workshop they produce beams in different steps.You can find complete steel buildings when you visit department stores, storages and any kind of sport arenas. ProductionIn the beginning the salesmen try to get purchasers. They usually contact costumers that have bought steel buildings from this company before. The reason why Vastanfors is so well known is that it has been a successful company for more than fifty years. When they have a purchaser they start to design the building in 3D with Auto CAD. When the design is finished they start to produce beams in the workshop and then they deliver the beams and other things that they order from other companies to the assemblers. Then they assemble it.The company doesn’t use any big machines. The two most-used tools are the grinder to cut the steel to a pleasant size and the welding equipment to weld the steel pieces into a beam. At Vastanfors Industries there are about 70 employees altogether from the different departments. Impact on our daily livesWe have big warehouses and buildings made by high quality stainless steel that will be around for many decades. Some buildings are made for a good cause such as sport arenas. Another very good thing to know is that steel doesn’t give the human body any allergic reaction. Steel is also easy to handle and to produce which we will see more of in the future.Steel is our community’s most important industrial-producing material. You can only think about everything that wouldn’t exist in your daily life if steel didn’t exist at all. Without steel we wouldn’t have any machines or tools, and if you didn’t have any machines you wouldn’t have any clothes, houses, computers, cars, and almost no raw material, nor electricity, and barely any food. You can make a long list; without steel our lives would be primitive. Inpact on the environmentWith today’s technology it’s easy to mass produce many kinds of steel and at Vastanfors industries the steel buildings are made of 100% recyclable steel.The impact on the environment from their activity is mostly done by carbon dioxide discharged from when they transport the beams to the place where the building will be built. Steel buildings are perhaps the construction system that’s best adapted to the environment. No other combination of materials in buildings has the same high recyclability. They can prevent damage due to dempness and they are constant regarding material effectiveness.
