Leitner AG
What does the company produce?
It produces rope-operated transportation systems,
urban transport systems (MiniMetro),
piste vehicles, and
wind power stations.
How does the company produce the products? What machines do they use for the production?
Generally, special machines and robots are used in the production. "CNC" stands for "Computerized Numerical Control".
In addition to the CNC machines, there are also many workers involved. The many welders who join the complex parts together are an indispensable part of the production chain and can not be replaced by a robot.
The raw material is produced in various stages. Many state-of-the-art machines are necessary for this. This is the only possible way to work fast and economically.
Mainly high-security parts are manufactured. Therefore, all materials must be examined for defects subsequent to each stage of production. There are special control stations for this. If the parts are too bulky to be examined at the control station, mobile control machines are used.
What are the products used for?
Above all, Leitner Group is known for its products in the Alpine technology branch. Special ropes are offered which, due to their flexible construction, can meet the requirements for every situation.
In addition, Prinoth, a firm which belongs to Leitner Group, builds piste vehicles which are used in ski areas worldwide.
Another company belonging to Leitner Group is MiniMetro. It manufactures public transportation systems which are pulled by ropes. This type of transportation is used in inner cities, e.g. in Perugia (northern Italy).
Leitwind, another branch of Leitner AG, concentrates on environmentally friendly technologies. It produces wind power stations by using recyclable energies. The first prototype was set up in Mals in Vinschgau.
How do the products affect people’s daily lives?
The rope-operated transportation systems enable many people to go up somewhere in a very short time, e. g. in ski areas, in other touristic areas, but also up mountains and in large cities.
The piste vehicles guarantee an optimal grooming of the ski slopes.
With MiniMetro people can travel quickly, economically, and environmentally friendly in large cities.
The wind power stations produce clean, environmentally friendly energy for an ever increasing number of consumers.
How do the products affect the environment?
With the MiniMetro transport system and the wind power stations, the Leitner team makes a big impact on the solving of global environmental problems.
When making new rope-operated transportation systems, forests must be cut down. The animals there have less living space. The system is also an eyesore.
