Heating

Most of the flats in Fagersta are heated by district heating; a central heating plant produces heat in a big bio-furnace and the heat is then distributed in the form of hot water to flats all over the town via water pipes.

Many of the detached houses are heated by heat pumps where the energy is extracted either from the air or the ground.

Other common heat sources are firewood and wood pellets, a wood fuel made from compacted sawdust.
